Our Improvement Journey

Reflecting on lessons learned

Reporting on our impact is also being open and transparent about what we have learned, where we need to improve and what we need to do differently.

Demonstrating our Impact

We want to make the most out of the generous donations we receive. This means being driven by what the data and evidence about the impact of our work is showing us. Up until two years ago, we hadn’t invested in collecting the right data or using a consistent approach across all our services.

That meant we couldn’t easily understand if our services were having the most impact or if clients needed us to adapt the support we were providing in any way.  Over the last two years, we have made huge progress in collecting data about our impact.

We’ve rolled out a new approach to collecting evidence of impact across our services and influencing work and will be supporting staff to understand and analyse this evidence to ensure every single donation we receive has the greatest possible impact for refugees and people seeking asylum.

Systems and Processes

We are always looking for ways to be more sustainable and efficient and we know that to do that we need to modernise our systems and processes. That's why in 2025 we will be replacing our finance system, updating our website and launching a new digital project management tool to continually improve our services work with data and insight. We will also be looking at wider potential cost savings to ensure that every single donation is maximised.

Crisis Readiness

Our staff and volunteers responded with care, commitment and diligence when the riots erupted in the summer of 2024. But during those difficult days, we spotted areas where our ability to respond could have been improved. We want to develop a better response plan, so that we are communicating effectively with our clients, staff, volunteers and supporters in a timely manner. We want to be a place of information, support and comfort for all our stakeholders.

Safeguarding

Safeguarding is always one of our top concerns. In 2024, we undertook an external safeguarding review, which identified some areas for improvement. One area was ensuring that our managers have the confidence to make decisions, without always having to refer to our Safeguarding Manager. We want to empower our staff by equipping them with the skills and training necessary to identify and manage risks.
