Financial Position

Income

At the Refugee Council, we believe everyone should feel safe. We can only help refugees rebuild their lives in Britain thanks to the incredible generosity of our supporters, funders, volunteers and partners.

In 2023/24 we raised just under £20.7 million, an increase of £1.6 million from the year before. This included a major boost in fundraised income, particularly thanks to a large legacy gift left by a supporter in their Will. Sadly, some European Union funded projects closed or reduced significantly with the end of their funding in December 2023. To continue these services in some form, we have used some of our own reserves to cover the running costs.

Expenditure

Our expenditure rose to £19.4 million, with investments being made into modernising our digital channels, such as our website, to ensure we are fit for future service delivery and engaging with supporters, alongside changing our logo and look and feel. We also increased spending on our services, including increases to resettlement services and therapeutic support, and improvements to employment and integration programmes, to ensure we’re supporting refugees and people seeking asylum in the best way possible.
