Nick Hardwick has resigned as Chief Executive of the Refugee Council following his appointment as Chairman of the new Independent Police Complaints Commission. His resignation will take effect from 31 January 2003.

Naaz Coker, Chair of the Refugee Council, said:

“I congratulate Nick on obtaining this new post and want to thank him for his seven years of service and leadership at the Refugee Council where he has been the driving force in the Council’s growth and leadership of the refugee sector. I wish him well in his new role as Chair of the Independent Police Complaints Commission.

“Nick leaves the organisation in good shape and confident about our ability to face the challenges of the future. The trustees of the Refugee Council have already made plans to recruit Nick’s successor and ensure a smooth transition.

“We expect to advertise for Nick’s replacement in the New Year. I am grateful to Margaret Lally, Nick’s deputy for agreeing to act as interim Chief Executive until a permanent appointment is made.”
