Unaccompanied child refugees flee to Britain escaping war and persecution. They have often experienced significant trauma, including witnessing the death of a loved one or suffering abuse or exploitation themselves.
Unsurprisingly, child refugees are usually extremely frightened and completely bewildered when they arrive on British shores.
Thanks to our partnership with the Separated Child Foundation, we’re able to provide children with a warm welcome. Children are given a welcome pack: a small bag of essentials that includes toiletries and underwear. It’s a small gesture, but it makes a big difference to the vulnerable children we see.
The packs are put together by a team of volunteers at periodic packathons. Earlier this month, committed volunteers completed their 5,000th arrival pack: an incredible effort.
We’ll be giving out the packs to new arrivals over the coming year.
