In response to the findings of the Home Affairs Committee report on the Asylum Bill, published today, Maeve Sherlock, Chief Executive of the Refugee Council, said:

We are very pleased the Committee has highlighted the poor quality of initial decision-making. Rather than remove essential legal safeguards, the Government should concentrate on getting decisions right first time.
