Volunteer with us and help refugees rebuild their lives.

Our volunteers are amazing! They come from all walks of life, from retired youth workers and teachers to students on various courses, volunteers who are in work but love to share an hour a week of their time with us and volunteers with lived experience sharing their insights and experience.

They contribute in many different ways, from accompanying clients to hospital appointments to organising English language sessions, running a women’s group or an event, offering case and admin support, befriending and more.

"I am from Ukraine. I started volunteering because it is a great opportunity to start developing in a new country, learning different cultures, improving the language. For me, it's meeting new people, making friends. And of course, this is an opportunity to do what I love – teaching Yoga, work with mothers and children." Olena

We have volunteer opportunities in London, Yorkshire and Humber, the West Midlands and the East of England. Some roles can be done remotely from other areas. Some roles require specialist skills but most only require enthusiasm and an interest in refugee and asylum issues.

“I find it rewarding to be able to show our clients that people do care. I enjoy the sense of team work and comradery with the volunteers, and also between the volunteers and clients. Getting to see the immediate positive feedback from clients when you’ve been able to help them or they’ve enjoyed the lunch you’ve helped make is really rewarding.” Sarah

Supporting you to volunteer

You will have a volunteer coordinator to support you and all the training you need to make sure that the placement works for you as well as for us and the people we work with. We will reimburse you for lunch and local travel costs.

"In the work I do, my Refugee Council supervisor is always asking how I am, how am I coping, what is arising for me, what can she do for me - so she focuses on me in our supervision sessions. That is so important for me." Priyanka
