Yasmin’s work story

Supporter Care Assistant, Fundraising Team

I joined the Refugee Council in 2017, straight after University, as a volunteer receptionist at our Head Office. This was such an important experience for me to understand the Refugee Council as an organisation and the support we provide to people across the country. As well as, gain the basic skills in administration and answering calls to clients. It was from the support and kindness of my colleagues at Refugee Council that I had the confidence to apply for jobs here.

Four months later, I started a full-time role as a Supporter Care Assistant in the Fundraising Team. I work with a fellow Supporter Carer, to process donations and thank all of our amazing supporters for their kindness and generosity in helping us continue our work with the people we help. I have gained so much from being in this role, from working in our Digital Comms Team to having Recruitment and Selection training and sitting on interview panels.

More recently, I have become an Equality & Diversity steward for our work place union and joined the RC Equality & Diversity Committee to represent members of the Union in important and necessary actions to make the organisation as inclusive as possible. I thoroughly enjoy working here alongside such hardworking, dedicated, supportive and inspiring colleagues. Refugee Council is like my second home and I’m incredibly proud to work here.
