Maluko's story - Refugee Council

Maluko’s story

“Building Bridges changed my life. I belong to something. I feel good in this country.”

Maloku had so much to offer the UK when she arrived from Kosovo in 2007. As a trained GP, she was keen to put her knowledge to use in her new home. Yet on leaving Kosovo, she left behind her official papers and thought all hope of restarting her career in medicine was lost.

Through our Building Bridges programme, our expert staff were able to locate some of Maloku’s missing documents. They then guided her through English language classes until she was ready to take her exams to re-qualify and practice in the UK.

Now working 12 hour shifts in an East London hospital’s Accident and Emergency department, Maloku couldn’t be happier.
